This is my last full day here. How did it go so fast!?? What a wonderful time I've had. Today we are planning on going to Hapuna Beach to Boogie board!! What is a boogie board? It's a short type of surf board that you lay your stomach/upper body on and ride the waves towards the beach. I LOVED IT!! It was SO fun! And tiring...We were to meet the wife of the Wed night meeting and their two daughters at the beach. On our way we heard that some of the visiting professing tourists (read, Canadians) would be there too! So there were lots of us on the beach. Nice to see the permanent residents once more. And Oh, how much fun boogie boarding was!
The beach is a lovely tan, fine sand and it's just about waist deep so far out, so not scary and the waves were coming in so perfect for boogie boarding. We went out for an hour or so then ate lunch. Sat around a bit and went out again. So fun. :-) More pics in later post..
Then it was back to the Macadamia nut place to get a few more treats for my family. The first macadamia nut trees in Hawaii were planted here in the Hamakua (Kona side) area in 188. Most commercial mac nuts are sold by the Mauna Loa company. Somehow it was nicer to NOT buy from the big guys but from this sweet little place. This company dries their nuts by using the mac shells and converting the energy from that into steam to dry the nuts. So many samples! So many flavored nuts! Remember, this is where the Spam flavored nuts are! Debbie wasn't too accomodating in getting me any "traditional" spam food.. so that will have to wait for another day! :-)
See the temp for the week? Not hard to predict weather here - Sunny and 82. All. The. Time. Well, at least while I was there. It'd be a boring job for a weatherman.
Last pics of Hawaii as we drove to Hapuna Beach
Someone took out the "Ha" part of Hapuna.. don't know why...
So many people! The beach was smaller cause of high tide, but so many more tourists because of Christmas week. Deb said there were way more people here than a normal Monday.
Beautiful blue sky and turquoise water
On our way to the Mac Nut place, see the harbor out there?
